COSMETIQUE BIO - CHARTE COSMEBIO

COSMETIQUE BIO - CHARTE COSMEBIO

Cosmebio is the leading trade association in France, representing over 350 local and international companies specialising in natural and organic cosmetics. The principles for the certification resulting from this organisation are derived from the standards of the Ecocert inspection body in France.

The main objectives of Cosmebio began to emerge around 2000 in response to the growing trend for natural cosmetics. The association's efforts are aimed at ensuring that consumers receive real quality and a guarantee of organic products. In October 2001, the Charter for Ecological and Organic Cosmetics (la Charte "Cosmétique Ecologique et Biologique" in French) was published, which sets out the main principles and guidelines for natural cosmetics.

The key to certification is the requirement that the product contains at least 95% ingredients of natural origin. Certification is then further subdivided according to the amount of ingredients of organic quality, i.e. sourced from organic farming.

  1. Cosmebio BIO brand The green label guarantees that: at least 95% of all ingredients are from natural ingredients or are of natural origin, at least 95% of plant ingredients are of organic quality and at least 10% of all ingredients are of organic quality (sourced from organic farming).

  2. Cosmebio ECO brand The blue label guarantees that: at least 95% of all ingredients are from natural ingredients or are of natural origin, at least 50% of the plant ingredients are of organic quality and at least 5% of all ingredients are of organic quality (sourced from organic farming).

Products bearing the Cosmebio logo must not rely on petroleum derivatives (paraffinum liquidum, silicones, PEG derivatives), synthetic preservatives (parabens), genetically modified raw materials, synthetic dyes and fragrances and must not be produced with disrespect for nature. Nor shall their manufacture involve the use of ionising radiation. For more information, please visit http://www.cosmebio.org/.
