Washing soda softens water and protects your washing machine from limescale. It effectively dissolves fats and removes stains from textiles, making it ideal for washing and soaking heavily soiled laundry such as socks, work clothes, or towels. This soda is a key ingredient for making homemade laundry powder and soap slime, representing some of the cheapest and most gentle washing methods when used with suitable soap free of synthetic chemicals, perfumes, dyes, and palm oil.

Instructions for Using Washing Soda

For Hard Water: To simplify the process, determine the hardness of your water using a test strip. If the washing soda does not soften the water sufficiently, use a water softener.

For Stains: Treat stains before washing with gall soap or olive soap with lemon extract.

Recipe for Soap Slime

Grate laundry soap into 10 liters of hot water, add 100-150 g of washing soda and mix thoroughly. To increase effectiveness, you can add flakes of gall soap. After mixing, let the mixture sit, and it will be ready for use the next day. Dosage: 250–300 ml for standard washing. Soap slime is not suitable for washing in hard water or for synthetic materials.

Recipe for Laundry Powder

Mix washing soda with grated soap in a ratio of 4:1. Mix thoroughly and store in a closed container to prevent drying out. Dosage: Adjust based on the size of the washing machine and the amount of laundry, usually 2 to 3 tablespoons for 5-6 kg of laundry. When washing white laundry, add a tablespoon of Puer bleaching powder to prevent graying.
