Improves the effects of dishwashing detergents, reducing limescale build-up.

Each dishwasher has a fixed ion exchanger that captures the ions that cause water hardness, i.e. calcium and magnesium, and feeds the soft water into the dishwasher. This is to prevent calcified rims from forming on glasses and cutlery. If the ion exchanger is saturated with calcium and magnesium ions, regeneration must restore its absorbency. To do this, regeneration salt is used to replace the ions that cause hardness and thus ensure optimum washing results.

Origin and properties of each ingredient

SAL is mined in salt mines, dissolved in water and allowed to crystallize as a coarse grain. This removes the impurities. As a concentrated solution in the salt reservoir of the washer, it ensures the exchange of bound calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions from the regeneration salt; the ion exchanger can thus supply soft water again.

Biological degradation

Kitchen salt is a natural part of our waters. Although kitchen salt is non-mineral in nature and does not need to be further degraded, it does contribute - albeit in a relatively small way - to the higher salt load in our water. With moderate water hardness, about 40 to 50 grams of salt per wash enters the wastewater.
