Baked gnocchi have gradually earned their place among popular homemade recipes. They are quick, filling, tasty, and offer countless variations. Whether you prefer the freshness of tomatoes, the autumnal aroma of mushrooms, or the creamy smoothness, you can always rely on baked gnocchi to provide exactly what you expect from a homemade meal – comfort, flavor, and satisfied diners. Moreover, their preparation is so simple that even a beginner can handle it.

Baked Gnocchi as a Universal Meal for Every Day

Thanks to their neutral taste, gnocchi pair well with everything – from vegetables to meat to cheese. If you decide to bake them, you'll be rewarded not only with a beautifully golden surface but also with an amazing consistency that literally melts in your mouth.

The advantage of this dish is that you can make it in advance – prepare the mixture in the morning, bake it in the evening, and you're done. If there's any left over, baked gnocchi taste even better the next day. It's an ideal meal for busy workdays as well as laid-back weekends when you don't want to spend a long time cooking.

What You'll Need:

  • 500 g potato gnocchi (you can also use pre-made chilled ones from the store)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 200 g cherry tomatoes
  • 200 ml whipping cream (at least 30%)
  • 150 g grated cheese (e.g., cheddar, mozzarella, edam)
  • 100 g fresh spinach (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • a pinch of nutmeg
  • fresh basil or other herbs for garnish

Preparation Steps:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté the finely chopped onion until translucent. Then add crushed garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant.
  2. Add cherry tomatoes (you can also cut them in half) and let them soften slightly. If you have spinach, add it now and let it wilt briefly.
  3. Pour in the cream, season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. Let it simmer for a while so the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the gnocchi. If using raw ones, boil them in salted water according to the instructions. If you have pre-cooked chilled gnocchi, you can briefly sauté them in the pan.
  5. Pour the gnocchi into a baking dish, cover with the prepared sauce, mix everything thoroughly, and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  6. Place in a preheated oven at 180 °C and bake for about 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  7. Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh basil and serve ideally while still warm.
