Dextrin, also known as decyl cocoate or TEGOSOFT DC, is one of the specialty additives used in various applications. This substance is a polyhydroxy compound consisting of smaller units of sugar components linked together in the form of a special chain. It is mainly produced by the breakdown of starch and the use of dextrin is certainly not limited to the food industry. Due to its unique properties, it can be used in other industries as well.
In the food industry, dextrin, or decyl cocoate, is used as a thickener or filler. Its addition to foods, for example, improves their consistency and extends their shelf life. Dextrin is often used in sweets, dried foods and various types of sauces. However, it also plays an important role in the cosmetics industry. Due to its ability to form a protective layer on the skin and act as an emulsifier, it becomes an important ingredient in many cosmetic products. For example, it can be found in creams, cleansers, make-up and shampoos. Under the name TEGOSOFT DC, it often appears as an ingredient in various types of soaps. Dextrin is also used in the pharmaceutical, textile, printing and paper industries.
