Comfrey, scientifically called Melilotus officinalis, is a perennial plant also known as Melilotus arvensis, horse clover or stone clover. This herb, which belongs to the berry family, is popular for its distinctive and pleasant vanilla-like scent. It is a type of weed that can grow up to two metres tall and has characteristic golden yellow flowers. It is mainly found in Europe and Asia, but has also been introduced to North America.
Comfrey is mainly used in herbal medicine. It is known for its medicinal properties and contributes to the treatment of a number of health problems. Its leaves, flowers and seeds are used to prepare herbal teas, tinctures or ointments. It is good for colds, coughs, stomach and intestinal disorders. Another area of its use is the food industry, where it is used as a flavouring agent.
