Nigella sativa is a medicinal plant also known as black cumin. The name Black cumin or just cumin is then its English name. This small herb with purple-azure flowers is native to southwest Asia and is used extensively, especially in the Middle East and South Asia. It is pressed into an oil that has a strong spicy aroma, tastes bitter and contains a number of bioactive compounds that are beneficial to the human body.
The oil is added to various cosmetic products, especially those used for skin and hair care. Its unique composition helps in skin regeneration and strengthens the quality of hair. In gastronomy, black cumin seeds are used as a spice. They are added to bread, vegetable salads, legumes or meat. It is also said to have a place in the traditional Indian medicine Ayurveda.
