Ammonium Chloride, also known as ammonium chloride, salmiak, ammonium chloride, or amchlor, is a white, crystalline bed of salt that is itself highly soluble in water. This chemical compound is often used in industry, medicine, food processing and other fields. Its chemical formula is NH4Cl.
In industry, ammonium chloride is used, for example, in the manufacture of dry batteries and fertilizers such as ammonia nitrogen fertilizer. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used in the manufacture of cough medicines and also as a component of straw powders. In the food industry it is mainly used in bakery and confectionery under the code E510. Ammonium chloride also forms the basis for the production of certain types of sweets such as salmiak lák. In the textile industry, the compound is used for printing on fabrics and also for impregnating cotton. It is also used in the metallurgical industry for cleaning and etching metals.
