The 100% natural candle by Mulieres is handcrafted from wax derived from locally and sustainably grown rapeseed. For its enchanting aroma, they added natural essential oils and housed the candle in a stylish dark glass jar with a lid. This way, even sustainably-minded individuals can enhance their atmosphere, and it comes highly recommended to vegans by the Vegan Society certification.
Mulieres carefully considered all available options for candle production. Stearin, popular in candlemaking, was rejected because it is derived from palm oil, the production of which negatively impacts rainforests. Therefore, they focused on local sources, and rapeseed won out.
The transformation of rapeseed oil into wax is a complex process where precise temperature and pouring speed are crucial, making it a challenge for hand production. They source the material from existing rapeseed fields and ensure it is a local, European product without genetic modifications. However, rapeseed wax does not have BIO certification because it is not produced globally in BIO quality due to low demand.
Rapeseed wax burns cleanly and, unlike paraffin candles, does not produce harmful emissions. If the wax accidentally gets on furniture or floors, it can be easily removed with soapy water.
