Stearyl Beeswax
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Stearyl Beeswax is a substance commonly found in many cosmetic and skin care products due to its exceptional ability to bind water and keep skin moisturized. It is a fatty alcohol derived from beeswax, which is similar to our bodies due to its fat content and is thus very well tolerated. In addition to its moisturizing properties and ability to soften the skin, stearyl beeswax has significant moisturizing effects and helps to strengthen the skin barrier. It dissolves easily in fats and oils, making it an ideal ingredient for creams, lip balms, makeup, shampoos, conditioners and more.
Although this ingredient is called stearyl beeswax, it has nothing to do with names like thin-winged camelweed, Corispermum pallasii, Corispermum intermedium or Corispermum leptopterum. These names refer to different plant species and stearyl beeswax is not related to them. This type of alcoholic beeswax is particularly popular because of its versatility and safety of use. It is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and its ability to increase the viscosity of cosmetic products and improve their consistency makes it an essential ingredient in many products. In addition, it has emulsifying properties, which means that it can combine water and oil into a homogeneous mixture, which is crucial for the production of, for example, creams or lotions.
