St. John's wort is a widespread medicinal plant in the Czech Republic, which has a considerable tradition in folk medicine under various names. Because of its healing power, it is also sometimes referred to as "St. John's herb", "Bloodwort" or "Witch hazel". This perennial herb is world-renowned for its antidepressant effects and is the main ingredient in many dietary supplements and medications designed to treat depression and anxiety.
This plant is used in dried form for the preparation of teas and decoctions, but its extracts can also be found in many products that can be bought in the pharmacy. In addition to tablets and drops for depression and anxiety, St John's wort is used, for example, in various ointments and creams that promote wound healing and skin regeneration. Its extracts are also added to various cosmetic products, such as face masks, shampoos and sunscreens for sensitive skin. In addition, some studies suggest that St John's wort may have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Because of these properties, it is also used in products designed to treat acne and eczema. The properties of this plant are thus used both in medicine and cosmetics.
