Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate
Other names: Sodium cetearyl sulfate, Sodium cetostearyl sulfate, Sodium cetyl/stearyl sulfate, Dehydag wax E
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, also known as Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Sodium Cetostearyl Sulfate, Sodium Cetyl/stearyl Sulfate or Dehydag wax E, is a substance widely used in the cosmetic industry. It is a so-called emulsifier whose function is to combine the water and oil components of cosmetic products into a uniform mixture. Due to this effect, it is mainly used in the industry in the production of various types of creams, lotions and skin care products.
Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate is popular in cosmetics for its dual properties. In addition to its primary role as an emulsifier, it is also characterised by its ability to form a rich lather, making it an ideal ingredient for shampoos, shower gels or face washes. Although Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate is described as a synthetic ingredient, it should be noted that it is made from natural fats - specifically cetyl and stearic alcohol. Despite this, it is sometimes the source of controversy about its possible irritating effect on the skin, but it is considered safe in terms of EU legislation.
