Potassium Chloride, also known as Potassium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Sylvin, Potassium Salt or E508, is a white or colorless crystalline substance that has no particular odor and tastes slightly salty. It is one of the mineral salts and is generally recognized as safe for consumption. It is chemically stable, non-volatile and non-flammable.

Potassium chloride is widely used in industry and food processing. In industry, for example, it is used in agriculture as a fertiliser, in medicine as part of a treatment for heart disease or as an alternative to ordinary salt for people with high blood pressure. Potassium Chloride is also used in the food industry, particularly in fast food and in convenience foods such as canned vegetables, cold cuts, cheese and baked goods, where it acts as a preservative and flavour enhancer. Under the code E508 it is added to foods as a stabiliser, thickener, emulsifier and acidity regulator.
