Oleic acid
Other names: Oleic acid
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Oleic acid, also known as oleic acid, is a monounsaturated fatty acid found in many plants and animal bodies. It is one of the most important fats in the human diet and is found primarily in olive oil, avocados, macadamia nuts and many other foods. The vault that carries this valuable treasure is olive oil, which can contain up to 83% oleic acid. Oleic acid is also found in many oils used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
In the cosmetics industry, oleic acid is valuable for its emollient, or moisturising, properties. It is thus widely used in soaps, creams, shampoos, lip balms and face masks. Thanks to its properties, it contributes to skin hydration and also promotes skin regeneration. In the food industry, oleic acid is mainly used for its ability to increase the shelf life of foods and improve their taste. Examples of foods containing oleic acid include baked goods, various types of chocolates and other sweets.
