Nimba, also known as Neem or Melia azadirachta, is a tree native to India and neighboring regions that is widely revered for its medicinal and cosmetic properties. This tree is a key source of many natural products and is ideal for use in natural medicines, as almost all of its parts - bark, leaves, seeds, flowers and roots - can be used. It grows well in arid, tropical and sub-tropical conditions and is considered an important part of Ayurveda, which is India's traditional system of natural healing.
Medicinal products made from Nimba often contain bioactive compounds that have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. In India, nimba is traditionally used to treat skin problems, where it is used for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. In oil form it is used to treat acne, eczema and psoriasis. Nimba leaves are also used as a preventative against malaria and other insect-borne diseases. In the cosmetic industry, its extracts and oils are used in soaps, shampoos, creams and other skin care products. In agriculture, it is used as a natural pesticide and insecticide to deter pests. Furthermore, the seeds and bark of the nimba are also used in other industrial products such as candles, paints and coatings.
