Other names: magnesium carbonate, magnesite, CI 77713
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Magnesium Carbonate, also known as magnesium carbonate, magnesite or CI 77713, is an inorganic substance that occurs naturally as a mineral. This mineral is white or off-white in colour, odourless and has a salty, bitter taste. Magnesium carbonate has a wide range of applications in various industries due to its unique properties such as high stability, lack of toxicity and ability to react with acids.
Magnesium carbonate is used in the food industry as a food additive - it acts as an anti-caking additive and acidity regulator. In addition, magnesium carbonate is a component of many pharmaceutical products, where it serves, for example, as an antacid, i.e. a stomach acid neutraliser. In cosmetics, this mineral is used as an absorbent or filler in powder products. Its ability to absorb moisture and grease makes it an ideal ingredient for powders and other decorative cosmetics. In industry, magnesium carbonate is used in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, soap and paper. In the construction industry it is known as a raw material for the production of magnesia cement and magnesia building boards. Athletes use it as a pulp - a white powder that helps them hold their tools better.
