Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate
Other names: Leuconostoc
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, often referred to simply as Leuconostoc, is a substance used in the cosmetic industry as a natural preservative. It is a bacterial fermentation of radish root that produces peptide antimicrobial substances. These substances are currently of considerable interest to the scientific community because of their potential ability to inhibit the growth and proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms. Leuconostoc is therefore used primarily for its preservative abilities.
Leuconostoc finds its application in a number of cosmetic products. For example, it appears in organic and natural skin creams, where it acts as a stabiliser and preservative against harmful bacteria. It is also used in moisturizing serums, toners, skin cleansers, as well as in various hair products and body lotions. The main advantage of this preservative is that it is also accepted by consumers who focus on vegan or natural cosmetics, as its source is the common radish. Recently, it has also appeared more frequently in products intended for sensitive skin, because, unlike some other preservatives, it is not irritating and is considered safe.
