Disperse Violet 1
Harm score: 3 (Harmless chemicals)
Disperse Violet 1 is an organic dye that belongs to a group of substances known as disperse dyes. Although it has a different composition from the dye Dipropylene glycol, the two terms are sometimes mistakenly confused as synonyms. Disperse dyes such as Disperse Violet 1 are widely used in the textile industry where they are used to dye synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon, and acrylic. These dyes are known for their ability to effectively penetrate and dye fibers without losing their physical properties.
Dipropylene glycol, on the other hand, is one of the chemical compounds that are used as solvents or plasticizers in a number of industries. In the cosmetics industry, it finds application as an ingredient in soaps, shampoos, skin creams and other personal care products. In the textile industry, it can serve as a component of substances that improve the dimensional stability of textiles, for example during washing. A distinction should therefore be made between the two substances, as although both can be used in the textile industry, their purpose and properties are quite different.
