Berhavia diffusa (Boerhaavia diffusa), also known as berhavia, punarnaya, punarnava, alyamasib, madad, mudid, itsit or wineflower, is a medicinal plant native to Asia and South America. This herb from the Nyctaginaceae family is popular in traditional Indian medicine, known as Ayurveda, where its effects are used for a wide range of ailments. The plant is up to 50 cm tall, has pink flowers and capsule-shaped fruits. Its leaves are oval and hairy on the surface. In addition to its medicinal benefits, the plant is also known for its ability to survive in extremely dry conditions, which is reflected in its generic name - diffusa means widespread.

Berhavia diffusa is used in many products, especially in various forms of alternative medicine and dietary supplements. Various herbal teas, tinctures and oils are made from the plant, which have a supportive effect on kidney and urinary system function, and also help in the treatment of skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis. In Ayurveda, the whole plant is used. The root has diuretic and spasmolytic effects, the leaves are used in the treatment of asthma and bronchitis, while the seeds help with skin disorders. Berhavia is also used in cosmetics - it is included in skin creams, ointments and oils for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to heal minor skin injuries. Berhavia decomposed is also used as animal feed, especially for pigs and cows.
