Burdock, also known as Agrimony, is a plant belonging to the rose family. Its golden yellow flowers can be seen in sunny to semi-shady places, especially in dry meadows, pastures, forests, but also along roadsides. Although it is a common plant in the Czech nature, in some areas it is already on the verge of extinction. This herb can grow up to around one metre tall and its stems are topped with a cluster of flowers that appear between June and September.
Burdock has long been used in folk medicine for its medicinal properties. The plant contains a number of substances that have a positive effect on the human body, such as coumarin, tannins, bitter substances, flavonoids and vitamin C. In the past, rapeseed was used to make decoctions and gargles for the treatment of tonsillitis or gingivitis. Today, the plant is mainly used in herbalism and the pharmaceutical industry. It can be found in a wide range of products such as teas, syrups, capsules, tinctures, ointments and cosmetics. Burdock is popular for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It is also used as a natural digestive aid and is an important part of some detoxification treatments. Therefore, it is no wonder that this plant is increasingly sought after and appreciated in various fields of medicine and cosmetics.
