Regular menstrual pads are usually made of synthetic materials, which can release cotton or wood fibres and irritate the delicate skin and mucous membranes of your private parts. Chlorine bleaching, while it produces a wonderfully clear colour, leaves behind residues of toxic dioxins which then have a very close effect on our bodies. A simple way to avoid dangerous substances is to use cloth reusable pads. After use, just wash the liners in a suitable natural detergent and you can use them over and over again.
