Ylang-Ylang or Cananga scented, whose botanical name is Cananga odorata var. genuina, is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. Its name is derived from the Filipino word 'ilang', meaning 'flower', and 'ylang-ilang' thus refers to its flowers, their intense fragrance and their scattered distribution throughout the tree. The tree grows up to 20 metres tall and is considered one of the most beautiful tropical trees due to its large, green leaves and yellow, curling flowers.
This fragrant flower is known for its very strong and sweet scent, which is often used in perfumery. Traditionally, ylang-ylang essential oil has relaxing properties and is often used in aromatherapy. In addition, this oil is also used as a natural insect repellent. Luxury cosmetic brands use the ylang-ylang flower in shampoos, creams and various body oils for its fruity scent and regenerative effects on the skin. The scent of ylang-ylang has also played a role in the food industry, where it is used in fruit drinks, candies, ice cream and other sweets.
