Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Undecylenoyl Glycine, sometimes also called 2-(undec-10-enoylamino)acetic acid or N-(l-oxo-10-undecen-l-yl)glycine, is an ingredient that is used in cosmetics and personal care for many purposes. It is an amphoteric organic acid, a substance that can behave as both an acid and a base. Undecylenoyl Glycine is derived from undecylenic acid, a fatty acid naturally found in castor oil, and glycine, the simplest amino acid.
In personal care products, this ingredient is valued for its antibacterial and antibacteriostatic properties. It is therefore often included in skin care products for acne or other skin problems. Undecylenoyl Glycine also acts as a humectant, which means it attracts water to help keep skin hydrated. Due to its properties, it is widely used in skin creams, lotions, soaps and other skin and body care products. In addition, in some cases it can also be used as an acidity regulator in cosmetic products.
