Tuberose, also known as night hyacinth, nightshade or white-flowered tuberose, is a heady-smelling plant belonging to the agave family. It is native to Mexico, where it is considered the national flower. Its scent is strong and exotic with hints of honey, coconut and vanilla. The tuberose grows up to 45 centimetres tall and is distinguished by its white flowers, which appear from July to September in its homeland.
Tuberose is inherently linked to perfumery, the scent of its flowers is very popular and is often used in luxury perfumes. Perfumes containing tuberose are characterised by their intense, warm and intoxicating scent. Tuberose is also often used in aromatherapy. Tuberose flowers are also used in the production of various cosmetics and oils. It is a very expensive raw material and tuberose extract is one of the most expensive essences in perfumery. However, despite its price, it is very popular and sought after. It is also an important part of some traditional medical practices, especially in Ayurveda, where tuberose flowers are used to treat various ailments.
