Trace elements
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Trace elements are minerals that the body needs in small amounts to function properly and maintain health. They include a substance known as Sodium salt, N-dodecanoyl sarcosine sodium salt or Sodium n-lauroyl sarcosinate.
This substance is commonly used mainly in the cosmetic industry. It is contained in many washing and cleaning products, for example in shampoos, bath foams, skin cleansing gels and toothpastes. Sodium n-lauroyl sarcosinate is also a common ingredient in shaving products. The reason for its widespread use is its ability to act as a surfactant, which reduces the tension on the surface of liquids, allowing oils and fats to mix better with water. This contributes to a more effective and thorough cleaning. The above products then achieve better results and are popular with consumers.
In the food industry, sodium salt is also used as an emulsifier. However, its use in this environment is restricted by strict legislation which sets a maximum amount of this substance that can be added to food. In some markets, its use in food production is even banned.
