Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
The tiger lily (Lilium Tigrium), also known as Lilium lancifolium or tiger lily, is an ornamental plant whose properties and importance extend far beyond the horticultural sphere. Native to East Asia, this plant has become a favourite flower in many European gardens and parks thanks to its attractive appearance, bold pattern and flowers that range in colour from orange to red. Sometimes called the 'tiger lily' because of its distinctive flowers with dark spots.
Although the Tiger Lily is primarily a popular ornamental plant, its importance is far from limited to the aesthetic level. It is one example where ornamental plants are also valuable in the fields of medicine and gastronomy. In fact, the tiger lily is used in traditional Chinese medicine for its healing properties. In particular, its onions, which are consumed after cooking, are valued for their detoxifying and strengthening effects. These onions can also be used in gastronomy. For example, they are dried and then used as a component of various Chinese dishes. Its edible flowers can be used in gourmet salads or sweet desserts.
