Matricaria narrow-leaved, also known as the motherwort, the daisy, or Thymus serpyllum in Latin, is an herb widespread in Europe and Asia. It grows mainly in drier habitats such as pastures, rock outcrops or forest edges. This plant is very popular for its medicinal properties, its strong scent and its flavour, which it obtains thanks to its high content of essential oils.
The uses of narrow-leaved milk thistle are very wide. Thanks to its characteristic aroma and taste, it is used as a spice in cooking, especially in traditional French and Italian cuisine. It is part of the well-known Herbes de Provence herb blend. It is also an important part of the pharmaceutical industry and cosmetic production. The leaves are used to make medicines that counteract convulsions, strengthen the immune system and aid digestion. Its essential oils are used in aromatherapy. In cosmetics, it is used in skin and hair care products, as well as in perfumery. Thanks to its insecticidal properties, it is also used as a natural insect repellent.
