Sucrose Laurate, also known as sucrose laurate, sucrose monolaurate or sucrose monolaurate, is an ester of the appealing sounding sucrose and lauric acid. This substance is very popular in the cosmetic industry due to its versatile properties.
It is an emulsifier and thickener, which means it helps combine water and oils in products while giving the product's mass its consistency. Due to these properties, sucrose laurate is mainly used in the manufacturing process of many cosmetic products such as body creams, skin creams, shampoos, hair conditioners and soaps. Its ability to mix water and oils is also used in the production of certain foods such as ice cream and chocolate creams. In the food industry, it is referred to as E473. Despite its synthetic origin, it is considered safe and is not associated with any health risks.
