Sodium Sweet Almondate
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Sodium Sweet Almondate, also used under the names Vincetoxicum officinale, Asclepias vincetoxicum, Antitoxicum officinale or Cynanchus vincetoxicum, is an ingredient with many uses. This substance is the fatty acid salt of almond oil combined with sodium hydroxide. In the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, this product is used for its cleansing and surfactant properties. It is therefore most commonly found in skin, body or hair care products.
Of particular note is its use in soaps and various cleaning products where it acts as an emulsifier. Thanks to its properties, it helps to mix water and oil, which is essential for effective cleansing of the skin or hair. It is also often used in shampoos, body shower gels or skin cleansing products. Sodium Sweet Almondate is therefore a key ingredient in many cosmetic products that are part of everyday hygiene. However, its use is broader, as it is also used in the textile industry as an additive in detergents.
