Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate
Other names: Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Sodium stearoyl glutamate, also known as Disodium stearoyl glutamate, is a natural surfactant used in the cosmetic industry as an emulsifier. Its main functions include combining the water and oil components of a product into a homogeneous mixture, stabilizing cosmetic products and enhancing their moisturizing effect. It can also act as a strong skin conditioner. It is a derivative of plant amino acids, very often obtained from sugar beet and rice.
Sodium stearoyl glutamate is found in a wide range of cosmetic products, such as makeup, skin creams, eye creams, anti-ageing products, moisturisers, sunscreens, body lotions, face masks, shampoos or hair balms. It plays an important role in achieving the correct consistency and stability of these products. Although Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is considered a safe ingredient, some people with sensitive skin may react to this type of emulsifier with irritation. Therefore, an important criterion in the selection of cosmetic products should be not only their functionality but also the possible tolerance of the individual ingredients.
