Sodium propyl ester salt of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, abbreviated sodium propylparaben, also known as E 216, belongs to the group of preservatives. They are used in the food industry to increase the shelf life of food and are widely used in industrial production worldwide. Due to its properties, it prevents the development of bacteria, moulds and yeasts that could spoil the food.
