Sodium hypochlorite is a chemical known by various names such as Sodium hypochloride, bleach, bleach or antiformin. This substance is an important ingredient in many cleaning and disinfecting solutions due to its strong oxidizing properties. Its main advantage is its ability to destroy a wide range of bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. Antiformin is a dilute solution of sodium hypochlorite that exhibits the same functions.
Sodium hypochlorite is used in many of our household products. It is most commonly found in bleach and disinfectant cleaners, among others, and in various washing powders and dishwasher tablets. It is also used in swimming pool chemicals, where it helps keep the water clean and prevents the spread of disease. On an industrial scale, sodium hypochlorite is used, for example, in paper and pulp production, but also to clean and disinfect water systems. In addition, its solutions are also used in medicine during surgical procedures to disinfect and sterilise instruments.
