Sodium dichloroisocyanurate is a chemical substance with the molecular formula C3Cl2N3NaO3, which is characterized by strong disinfectant and biocidal effects. However, it is far more commonly known by its trade names such as Sodium dichloroisocyanurate or 3,5-dichloro-2,4,6-trioxo-1,3,5-triazinan-1-ide. Its use is really wide and due to its disinfectant abilities it reaches many sectors of industry and everyday life.
This chemical is most commonly found in various products designed for cleaning and disinfection. These are mainly washing powders, dishwasher tablets, pool cleaners or water disinfectants. It is also used in the paper industry, in the textile industry to bleach fabrics and in the food industry to disinfect utensils and equipment. Sodium dichloroisocyanurate is also used in agriculture as a fungicide and algaecide. In medicine, on the other hand, it finds application as a disinfectant in hospitals and other medical facilities. Although it is a substance with a poisonous effect on bacteria and moulds, it is harmless to humans when properly dosed and safety precautions are followed.
