Tuber shadbush, also known as Cyperus rotundus, Musta or umbrella shadbush, is a perennial herb belonging to the shadbush family. It is a plant that originally originated in India but is now widespread throughout the world. It is considered one of the hardiest and most difficult to eradicate weed plants. The shagbark hawkweed stands out for its thick, deep and fleshy tuber, which is located underground and makes the plant very resistant.
The uses of the tuberous shagbark hyssop are very diverse. It is popular in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, where its dried tubers are used. These contain many active substances such as flavonoids, terpenoids and phenolic acids. These substances have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant effects. The tubers are thus used in the treatment of many ailments, including digestive problems, rheumatism, female gynaecological problems and even to heal wounds. The tubers are also used as a spice in some cultures. Shachor tuber is also used in the cosmetic industry. The extract of the tuber succulent is added to some creams and soaps for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
