Resorcinol
Other names: Resorcinol, Benzene-1,3-diol
Harm score: 4 (Slightly harmful chemistry)
Resorcinol, also known as Resorcin or Benzene-1,3-diol, is a type of organic compound that belongs to the group of dihydroxybenzenes. It is a white crystalline solid with a bitter taste that is highly soluble in water. However, it is toxic to humans in large quantities. This chemical is obtained by recording sodium sulfate and hydroxybenzene mixed in glacial acetate.
Resorcinol is used in a variety of industries and is a component of many commercial products. In cosmetics, it is often used as an antiseptic in skin products, acne products and anti-dandruff shampoos. In medicine, it is used as a treatment for dermatological problems such as psoriasis, eczema and acne. In the construction industry, it is used as a component of adhesives, i.e. materials used for bonding. In rubber production it is used as a rubber accelerator. Resorcinol is also used in the manufacture of dyes, adhesives and resins. However, it has a downside. When used excessively, it can cause skin, eye and respiratory irritation, allergies and, with prolonged exposure, other health problems. It should therefore be handled with care and safety.
