Propylheptyl Caprylate
Other names: propylheptyl caprylate, 2-propylheptyl acetanoate
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Propylheptyl Caprylate, also known as propylheptyl caprylate or 2-propylheptyl octanoate, is an ester of octanoic acid and alcohol. It is a substance which, among other things, has strong emollient properties. Emollients are substances that help maintain the moisture of the skin and hair, improving their appearance and elasticity. Propylheptyl caprylate can also gently lubricate the skin without an unnecessary greasy feeling.
It is thanks to these properties that propylheptyl caprylate is widely used in the cosmetic industry. It can be found, for example, in hand and body creams, lip balms, depilatory creams, hair oils or shampoos and conditioners. However, this ingredient can also be found in make-up, specifically in various types of foundations and concealers. Propylheptyl caprylate is popular precisely for its properties that protect and soften the skin while providing it with the necessary nourishment. It is a replacement for synthetic silicones, which are increasingly being replaced in cosmetics with natural alternatives.
