Harm score: 3 (Harmless chemicals)
Polyethylene, also known as polyethylene or polyethylene, is a type of polymer that has different physical properties and applications depending on the specific type. It is the most commonly used type of plastic, which is produced by polymerizing ethylene. How can it be identified? In its basic state it is colourless and transparent, but depending on the additives added it can change its colour and transparency.
Polyethylene finds applications in many types of products. First of all, it is used in industry, where it is used to make a variety of different products. This includes, for example, different types of packaging such as bottles, bags, food containers, films, as well as parts for cars and other machinery. Depending on the type of polyethylene (e.g. HDPE - high-density polyethylene, LDPE - low-density polyethylene), its properties and therefore its areas of application change. Outside industry, the material is also used in the construction industry, where it is widely used for the production of insulation, pipes and other building components. It can also be used to create various consumer products such as toys, sports equipment, furniture and kitchen utensils.
