Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Snow star plantain, also known as snow star or Estrella de las nieves, is a perennial plant belonging to the Plantain family (Plantaginaceae). The generic name nivalis is Latin for snow, referring to its habitat high in the mountains where it often grows amongst snow. It is a low plant with narrow grey-green leaves forming succulent clumps. The flowers are white or pinkish white and form an ornamental inflorescence.
Snow coneflower is considered a medicinal herb with many uses. Although not as widespread as other species of plantain, it is used in homeopathic medicine for its anti-inflammatory and healing effects. Its leaves can also be consumed raw and are an excellent source of vitamin C. Snow coneflower is also found in cosmetics, specifically in skin creams, where its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are beneficial to the skin. This plant is also used in teas, where it supports immunity and has a mild laxative effect. It is therefore not only an ornament of the Alpine fields, but also a valuable tool in the home medicine cabinet.
