Triple pinellia, also known as Ban xia or three-part pinellia, is an herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine, where it is used to make medicinal preparations mainly for treating various respiratory and digestive ailments. Its scientific name is Pinellia ternata and it belongs to the Araceae family. It is botanically similar to the arone, which is widespread in our country, but its root is poisonous, unlike the pinellia, whose rhizome is not only edible but also medicinal.
Pinellia trifolium is mainly a component of various Chinese medicinal mixtures, with both tablets and drops being made from it, as well as various teas and syrups. Its rhizome is processed into a powder, which is then part of these medicines. Due to its effects, it is used for example for respiratory inflammation, digestive problems, but also for nausea, vomiting and even for pneumonia. Recently, its anti-carcinogenic effects have also been increasingly investigated. However, although pinellia has many positive medicinal effects, some caution should also be exercised, as excessive consumption can lead to various side effects, such as irritation of the digestive tract.
