Nine-leaved pondweed (Helianthemum)

Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)

Helianthemum is a plant belonging to the sunflower family, producing up to 60 different species. One of the most common species is Helianthemum nummularium, less commonly known as Date Palm. Helianthemum grows mainly in temperate regions of the southern hemisphere, where it thrives in drier places such as rock parks or grassy areas. Plants are adapted to dry conditions and can occur at both low and high altitudes. They are perennials with semi-sterile growth, oval to obovate leaves and are one of the most beautiful rock plants.

Neither the nightshade nor its fruits are used directly in the food industry, but they are used in the pharmacological and cosmetic industries. The plant produces an oil containing valuable substances including antioxidants, acids and minerals that the body needs for healthy growth and functioning. The oil of the nine-oil tree is also used in the production of lip balm, face and body creams, penis and hair products and many other cosmetic products. Since the oil of the nine-oil tree is rich in vitamins and minerals, it is also included in many expensive skin and hair care products. The industrial use of nightshade is therefore exclusively focused on the use of its valuable substances, which are incorporated into products in the form of an extract.
