Myristoyl pullulan
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Myristoyl pullulan is an organic compound that belongs to polymers and is derived from the sugar pullulan. However, it is very often mentioned under more exotic names such as Chun gen pi or Ailanthus glandulosa. It is a substance that has the ability to form a film on the surface of the skin, thanks to which it has a beneficial effect on its properties. This compound is widely used in the cosmetic industry, but is also used as a dietary supplement.
In cosmetics, myristoyl pullulan is mainly used for its smoothing and moisturising properties. It is therefore an important ingredient in many creams, serums and facial tonics, but also in lip balm, eye shadow, lipsticks and other decorative cosmetic products. Although the main purpose of this compound is skin care, its abilities can be used for other purposes as well. In the food industry, for example, myristoyl pullulan is used as a thickener or stabilizer. Furthermore, this material is often used in hair care, for example in shampoos or conditioners. Its advantage is that it is a natural substance that does not cause irritation or allergic reactions, so it is considered safe for the general public.
