Mirror white (Limnanthes Alba)
Other names: Meadowfoam
Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
The white mirror plant, also known as Meadowfoam, is a plant native to the American state of California. Its name is based on the characteristic appearance of the flowers that cover the field and resemble, when viewed from a distance, a mirrored sea foam, i.e. "meadowfoam". This plant is particularly important for its seeds, which contain oil rich in fatty acids.
Meadowfoam oil is becoming a popular and common ingredient in the cosmetics industry. Due to its composition, it is very stable and provides moisturizing and softening effects when used on the skin. It can be found in many skin care products such as creams, serums, soaps or lip balms. Hair products with Meadowfoam oil, such as shampoos or conditioners, help nourish hair and add shine. However, it is also used in the food industry, for example in the production of margarines and other butter replacement products. Relatively recently, it is also used as an additive in lubricants and candle making.
