Mint (Mentha arvensis), also known as meadow mint, horse mint, or in English-speaking countries as wild mint, cornmint, or horse mint, is a plant species that is abundant in the Czech Republic. It is a perennial herb with a scent that is typical of plants in the deaf mint family. This plant can be found in meadows, pastures, roadsides or wet places near water.
Peppermint is very popular in many industries, mainly because of its strong aroma and smell. Menthol is produced from spearmint and is used in many cosmetic and medical products such as ointments, creams, shampoos, toothpastes and so on. In the kitchen, spearmint is used as a spice, in the preparation of beverages, and as a component of some liqueurs. Spearmint is also a popular ingredient in some herbal teas, where it contributes its typical cooling effect and mild minty flavour. Finally, it is also used in aromatherapy for its refreshing effects. Thanks to its strong aroma, spearmint is also often used as a natural insect repellent.
