Magnesium phosphate, also known as Magnesium phosphate, is a chemical compound that can be found in three different forms: monophosphate, diphosphate and magnesium triphosphate. This is recognized by the ratio of phosphorus to magnesium in the molecule. It is colourless and has a powdery consistency. Magnesium phosphate is not only contained in a number of foods, but can also be used as a dietary supplement.
Magnesium phosphate has many applications in industry and food processing. Its primary use is as an additive in the food industry, where it functions as a stabilizer, acidity regulator, thickening agent, emulsifier and, most importantly, as an anti-caking agent. In the pharmaceutical industry, magnesium phosphate is commonly used as an excipient in the manufacture of tablets and other drugs. It is also used as an ingredient in toothpastes and mouthwashes. In the construction industry, it finds use as an ingredient in acid mortars to protect concrete against acids. It can also be found in some fertilizers that are intended for agricultural use. Magnesium phosphate is also a component of some cosmetic products where it serves as a stabiliser.
