Harm score: 3 (Harmless chemicals)
Lauryl pyrrolidone, or Lauryl pyrrolidone, is an organic compound used in the cosmetics industry. It is a white crystalline substance with a mild specific odour that is highly soluble in water, ethanol and other organic solvents. It is an amphoteric tenside, i.e. a substance that provides a reduction in surface tension between two different phases. It is a very popular additive that improves the stability and properties of cosmetic formulations.
Lauryl pyrrolidone is often used in cosmetic products such as skin creams, shampoos, mascaras, concealers or make-up. It is also often found in mouthwash products or toothpastes. Thanks to its properties, it can improve their consistency and mix ingredients that do not mix with other ingredients. In shampoos, it coats the hair fibre and softens it, adding shine and making it easier to comb. In skin creams, it acts as a humectant, a moisturizing agent that helps the skin maintain optimal hydration.
