Kinetin is a plant hormone that belongs to the group of cytokinins. Together with auxins and gibberellins, kinetin forms a trio of the most important plant hormones. Although kinetin is naturally present in many plants, it was first isolated from the DNA of animals, where it occurs in small amounts. Kinetin has many synonyms, such as kinetin, kinerase, kinetase, and 6-furfuryladenine. Nowadays, kinetin is often produced synthetically and has a wide range of applications in industry and science.

The main area of industry where kinetin is used is cosmetics. It is one of the few substances able to slow down the aging process of the skin. Due to its regenerative properties, it is often included in anti-ageing products, especially face creams and eye serums. It is able to affect the skin by stimulating the production of collagen and thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles. At the same time, it helps to keep the skin hydrated and supple. Apart from the cosmetic industry, kinetin is also used in agriculture where it is used as a plant growth regulator for better crop yields. It is also a component of some pharmaceuticals, where it is used for its ability to promote cell growth and regeneration.
