Japanese holly, also known as Sophora japonica, is a deciduous tree native to Asia. This elegant tree with a graceful crown can grow up to 25 metres tall and is popular for its beautiful flowers and foliage. It is widely planted in urban and park areas for its resistance to pollution, but also for its decorative appearance.
The uses of Japanese cranesbill are diverse. In traditional Chinese medicine, its flowers and buds are used to treat various ailments, especially liver, kidney, blood purification, as well as hemorrhoids and bleeding. Psylarenin, one of the main flavonoids contained in this tree species, is also used in cosmetics for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The wood of the Japanese cranesbill is also valued for its hard character and is therefore often used in carpentry. Its resistance to insects and rot makes it ideal for furniture and flooring. Last but not least, Japanese cranesbill is also popular with beekeepers as its flowers make an excellent source of nectar.
