Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Italian spruce (Helichrysum italicum) is a perennial herb belonging to the star family. It grows up to 60 cm tall and is characterised by its small yellow flowers that bloom all summer until autumn. If this plant is not allowed to dry out after flowering, it can stay green all year round. Its leaves are silvery and covered with tiny hairs, making them look like they are covered in a fine layer of dust. The plant is striking not only for its appearance, but also for its specific aroma, which is reminiscent of curry spice. This is why this herb is sometimes also called curry herb, immortelle, Italian straw plant or curry plant.
The main use of this smilu is its essential oil, which is obtained by distillation from the flowers and leaves of the plant. This oil is used in the cosmetic industry for its regenerative, healing and anti-ageing effects. It also has antibacterial properties and helps relieve inflammation. Thus, it can be found in various skin creams, serums, masks and lip balms. Italian frankincense is also added to perfumes to take advantage of its delicate and exotic scent. In aromatherapy, the essential oil of this essential oil is also used for its relaxing and antidepressant effects. In addition to its use in cosmetics and aromatherapy, Italian smelts are also used in culinary applications. Its leaves can be used as a spice to add a subtle curry aroma and flavour to food.
