Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Isopropyl Palmitate, also known by the names IPP 90 or Hexadecanoic acid, 1-methylethyl ester, is an ester of palmitic acid and isopropyl alcohol. Its main properties are emolliency and protectiveness. The product has high dissolving abilities for a variety of substances, and its emolliency and the slightly dry feel of its products make it popular in the manufacture of hand creams and other skin care products. It is exceptionally great for softening hair and piel, making it indispensable in hair products.
Isopropyl Palmitate is also widely used in cosmetic products as a skin-soothing ingredient, adding moisture and increasing the viscosity of aqueous emulsions, especially in lip balms, deodorants, antiperspirants, creams, lotions, make-up products and sunscreens. Its creamy and exfoliating properties also make it a common ingredient in many skin care and cleansing products. Since Isopropyl Palmitate is one of the best emollient ingredients, it is a very popular ingredient in shaving products because it helps to soften the beard and prepare it for shaving, thus enhancing the overall quality of the shave.
