Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Isopogon, also known as Horny Conebush or Candy Cones, is a species of plant belonging to the Proteaceae family. It is native to Western Australia, where over 35 species can be found on that continent. Isopogon is typically characterised by its globular, cone-like flowers, which are distinguished by their yellow to purple colour. This plant is highly sought after for its exceptional hardiness, ability to survive in harsh conditions and different soil types.
In terms of uses, Isopogon is often used in horticulture, especially in its native Australia and also in South Africa. Its showy and attractive flowers attract gardeners looking for unusual plants for their orchards devoid of perennials and annuals. Isopogon is also used in commercial cut flower production where its flowers are used for flower arranging. Although its flowers are not perfumed, they are still delicate and attractive, making them popular for decorative purposes. The flowers are also sometimes used in herbal teas, although this is not their main commercial use.
